Each year during Homecoming week, Maclay invites a Maclay alum to speak to the upper school students about their successes past Maclay. This year, Maclay invited Daniel Wingate, a fashion designer, to speak with the students. On Friday, Oct. 18 during Homeroom, Wingate shared information about his life beyond his years at Maclay.
After an informative introduction by Mr. Beamer, students learned that Wingate attended the University of Georgia immediately after graduation and then Parsons School of Design in New York City. Further, Wingate worked as a top designer at J. Crew before launching his own line called Wingate Collection.
This ageless and timeless collection was demonstrated through video and photos provided by Wingate as well as a few pieces being modeled by Maclay students. Wingate was extremely entertaining and personable throughout the entire presentation, getting the audience very involved. Seniors Caroline Cureton, Bella Evans and Kayla Iarossi were able to “walk down the runway” where Wingate would show off his designs.
Daniel Wingate sets an example for the Maclay upper school of a successful and hard-working student. His presentation was both personable and inspiring to students. His casual and friendly tone throughout the speech encouraged students to pursue their dreams.
