In early November, a human head washed up on the beaches of Key Biscayne, Fla. Officials closed the beach down and identified the head as 19-year-old Victor E. Castaneda Jr. His family told police that he had been missing and was last seen swimming in the ocean.

Later investigations found that Victor went into the water after seeing his 17-year-old sister, Hailey Clements, struggling to swim in the high tide current. It was reported that a bystander helped the sister out of the water but did not have enough time to save the brother. The Miami Police Department is currently having a more thorough search to see what happened to Castaneda when he was in the water to decapitate his head.

A memorial was held for Castaneda a week after he disappeared. Clement spoke about how loving and sweet her brother was. Casteaneda’s other sister Jessica Castaneda spoke about how sad it is that he passed and that he is a hero and will be remembered forever.
