October is a time for pumpkins, costumes and trick-or-treating, but it is also mid-semester which is a time when school is in full swing for teenagers. Tests, projects and homework overtake your schedule and make it difficult to look ahead to the end of the month. It is easy for students to lose track of time in the flurry of deadlines and commitments during this hectic time. Each week blends into the next until, before you know it, it is Halloween and you do not even have a costume. You have to come up with something quick but you still want it to be memorable. Luckily, there are several potential solutions to this last-minute dilemma that do not even require leaving your home. There are likely several costume options lying around your house that you do not even know you have. These are a few quick and easy Halloween costume ideas to spark inspiration for the student who could have sworn October started yesterday.
1. Reuse old costumes
Reusing old costumes can be an easy way to get one more use out of that outfit you thought you would never wear again. These costumes can be from a past Halloween, dance recital, spirit week or school play. It is easy to forget about old clothes that would make the perfect costume. Looking through old photos might also help you remember old outfits that could have potential for a Halloween costume.
2. Wear a jersey or sports uniform
Wearing a jersey is a great way to show team spirit while dressing up to go trick-or-treating. Whether it is a uniform from your own school varsity team or a jersey from a professional sports team, this is a quick and easy way to find a costume to celebrate the spooky season in. If you want to go farther with it, there are other accessories you can add as well. For example, if you wear a football jersey, you can add face paint, a helmet and a football. This simple yet complete costume is a great option.
3. Find accessories around the house to throw something together
Everyone has random accessories around that they are not quite sure where they came from. They often come from school plays, spirit weeks or past costumes. Once you put your mind to it, it is relatively simple to put some accessories together to form a costume. Finding just one accessory can sometimes spark inspiration. For instance, finding a cowboy hat in your closet may remind you of a flannel shirt you never wear. After that, add jeans and a pair of boots, and you’ll have a great costume.
4. Wear your parents’ clothes
One final idea for your last-minute Halloween costume is to go as one of your parents or other family members. This is a unique yet surprisingly simple idea that can be accomplished by asking to borrow some of your selected family members’ clothes. If you have extra time, you can even add any specific accessories or certain mannerisms to your portrayal. For example, if you are posing as your mom who wears glasses and always carries a purse, you can put on some fake glasses and collect candy in a purse while trick-or-treating.
Halloween costumes are all about having fun and do not have to be perfect. A thrown together outfit gets you just as much candy as an elaborate ensemble would.
