POSSIBLE SPOILERS
Season four of the Netflix Original “Outer Banks” aired its first five episodes on Oct. 10 and released the following five episodes on Nov. 7. The season picked up right where the previous season left off, as the Pogues continued to question if all they had done was truly worth it. Season four is filled with a new level of mystery and forces the characters to question their past, future and present. This season turns out to be the most entertaining yet. “Outer Banks” season four is filled with nail-biting cliffhangers, mysterious new characters and plot twists. However, the amount of drama and action in the new season makes it hard to keep up with the characters, storyline and overall character development.
While the show has always been noted for its unexpected endings, this year’s season takes the cake. The final episode left fans outraged and filled with grief. Many fans were disappointed with the way the writers decided to send off one of the most important characters in the show. The fandom also expressed anger for the lack of screen time the new relationship referred to as “Jiara” (JJ and Kiara) received. The new couple was recently launched at the end of season three and many fans were eager to see the two together. Ultimately, the fans were disappointed by their lack of screen time together.
The new season also leaned into the magical side of things like curses, resurrection of the dead and magical amulets. Netflix received backlash on this aspect in the recent season, as many fans felt the supernatural elements were completely unrealistic and skewed the whole angle of the show. Some fans also complained about the show’s overall unbelievable plot. For example, when JJ and Sarah fall overboard during a horrible storm, they somehow survive and wash up on shore a day later.
Season four stands apart from the first three seasons, which just consisted of young teenagers having fun and growing up, where treasure hunting was not their only focus.
Overall, while the new season of “Outer Banks” is the most entertaining, too much is going on to follow. From treasure hunting, trying to break a magical curse and finding out a character’s father is not really their father, viewers found it extremely hard to keep up with everything going on.
