No matter the score, the girls varsity volleyball team fought until the final whistle, especially in their playoff game on Tuesday, Oct. 15 against the P.K. Yonge Blue Wave. While the Marauders did not start the playoffs the way they wanted, losing the first set 23-25, they left everything on the court but lost in five sets.
The Marauders went on to win the second and third set convincingly but dropped the final two sets 18-25 and 7-15 to the Blue Wave. However, the accomplishments the team achieved, especially in the face of adversity, defined their chemistry, leadership and season.
“Although we didn’t have the best outcome numerically with the season, every single day and every single game we got better,” senior captain Gray Burleson said. “I am proud of everyone for that.”
From injuries to a mid-season coaching change, the Marauders made no excuses but battled during every game.
“It was really tough to find a rhythm as a team coming into the season because of how young we were,” senior captain Landri Ross said. “Everyone had competition when it came to their position, but as the season progressed, I feel like everyone stepped up and grew tremendously as players and teammates.”
While the season may have ended without finishing their desired goals, the bonds made throughout the season extend beyond just the season.
“We had a good season, and I am very proud of all the growth I have seen from this team,” Ross said.
