The sun was setting in the Eagles Nest and it was a perfect day for baseball. On Wednesday, March 27, the Maclay Marauders played against the North Florida Christian Eagles in a regular season game. This was the Marauders second time playing against the Eagles this season. The Eagles took home their second win against the Marauders in the Eagles nest.
The Eagles started off the game by scoring two runs. The Marauders were unable to respond as through the first three innings, the Marauders trailed by three runs.
“It was okay,” junior Hunter Smith said. “I think if we wouldn't have made some mistakes in the first inning, we would have had a chance to win.”
In the top of the fifth, the Marauders turned the game around, tying the Eagles. Sophomore Ben Wagnon got a walk, and freshman JR Thompson hit a single that allowed the Marauders to tie the ball game. Freshman Tucker Poppell, and senior Cole Lewis also collected a hit for the Marauders throughout the game.
“We had to go through some adversity with our coach being out,” Lewis said. “I felt like we battled well throughout the game. It was close and we had it tied 3-3. We just fell a little short.”
Freshman Henry Richardson then struck out for the Marauders and it changed to the bottom of the fifth. The Eagles then went for another run, upping the score to 4-3.
Sophomore Noah Chavez started off the Marauders pitching the first few innings until Wagnon was put in to pitch for the Marauders. He struck out the player that was up at bat. After a few pitches, the Marauders switched pitchers again and Richardson started pitching for the Marauders.
“We are going to work on throwing strikes and not walking people,” Poppell said. “When the pitchers walk, that leads to us losing.”
The final score of the game was 3-5 and the Eagles took home yet another win.
