Following the junior varsity girls 6-1 win, varsity took home a 2-0 win against the Marianna Bulldogs on Tuesday, Nov. 12. The Marauders played at home with their new senior captains, Gray Burleson and Bryce Storey, and new head coach, Sara VanTassel, leading them to their third season win of the season.
“I just wanted us to be successful,” Storey said, “I was thinking about things we could work on [throughout the game] and help us get better for the next game and hopefully score more goals.”
The two goals of the night were scored by freshman Mallory Van Leuven and sophomore Macy Cureton. In the last few minutes of the game, Cureton’s goal made the game out of reach for the Bulldogs, sealing the win for the Marauders.
“I was relieved when we won the game, especially when we scored in the last few minutes to steal the game,” junior captain Neely Oberste said.
The girls will play against St. John Paul II at home again on Thursday, Nov. 14, hoping to add to their 2-1 record. Fans are hopeful that the girls will take home their third win in a row.
