Maclay Women’s Service is a newer program implemented last year by seniors Stella Matheson and Maggie Murray. Last year, the program held a cleaning service for Brehon House and the volunteer event was extremely successful. Brehon House is a women’s home that shelters pregnant women and provides safety, food, education and medical care. This year, Maclay Women’s Service returned to clean Brehon House on Sunday, Oct. 27.
At 11 a.m., the volunteers ventured to clean the house, supplies in hand. Upon arrival, volunteers were distributed to clean different areas of the house. The pantry was reorganized by food type and the kitchen was thoroughly cleaned, with volunteers wiping down the walls and equipment. The dishes were done and organized into the cabinets. The rugs were vacuumed and placed back onto the mopped and swept floors. The house was thoroughly cleaned and left spotless.
The Brehon House residents were extremely grateful for the deep cleaning service. Each resident is responsible for their own chores and rooms, however, the house is rarely deeply cleaned. Maclay Women’s Service ensured that the house was left spotless.
