The Maclay varsity football team came into Saturday hoping to keep their season alive. After losing to St. John Paul Catholic II on Oct. 11, the Marauders were not only looking for revenge, but they were also hoping to make it to the second round of playoffs. After a close game, the Marauders scored a touchdown on a double reverse pass which led to senior quarterback George Grant scoring the game tying touchdown. Junior kicker Wyatt Long drilled the point after to give the Marauders a 21-20 win over the JPII Panthers.

“We played great as a team,” sophomore Jediah Stewart said. “Our team finished strong and our defense played their best game.”

Maclay’s defense was outstanding in the first half, allowing zero points. This defensive intensity is what Maclay hopes to bring to their second round matchup against Trinity Christian Academy. After an exciting win, Maclay’s focus is on their next big game.

“We have to have our best week of practice yet,” senior Adam Bailey said. “They are a very good team and we have to be mentally prepared.”

Maclay is now 7-3 and hopes to move on to the regional final after they play Trinity Christian Academy on Nov. 22.
