U.S. Airstrikes on Yemen

In March, President Donald Trump authorized airstrikes on the Houthis, a rebel group that controls the most densely populated regions of Yemen, including its capital. Since then, the United States has struck more than 40 locations across Yemen, injuring many residents and demolishing vital infrastructure. This is the first large-scale U.S. military operation in the Middle East since Trump took office.

Political advocacy groups say that the U.S. airstrikes on Yemen are unconstitutional, as any act of war requires congressional authorization, which the Trump administration did not obtain.

Additionally, the bombings destroyed a water source that kept 50,000 Yemenis alive. Trump aims to punish the Houthis for their disruption of cargo traffic in the Red Sea. The group says that they did this due to continued support of the U.S. for Israel in their war against Hamas.

“Hell will rain down upon you like nothing you have ever seen before,” Trump said after the initial strikes.
