In society, many of us use laptops and iPads in our day-to-day life, whether it’s for work, school or even just to unwind after a long day of life. There are a lot of opinions surrounding which one is better; laptops or iPads?
Laptops have been a popular choice for a while now. They were invented in 1981 and have since been a great tool for schools, businesses and at-home jobs. They have massively improved over the last 43 years and there are many different companies that produce them, such as Apple, Dell, Hewlett-Packard (HP) and more. Each of these brands come with their own special traits. Apple has many different high quality apps that, in most cases, can only be used on mobile devices. Dell laptops have an extremely slim build which ultimately makes them lighter to transport but also easy to fit into crammed school bags or briefcases. Lastly, HP laptops have touch screens and can also flip into a tablet.
iPads were released in 2010 and when this new kind of device came out, it received many kinds of opinions, a lot of those opinions being not so good ones. iPads were mocked for a long time because of the success of iPhones and iPods. Many people did not see the need for such a device because they already had a smaller, more portable device. Although there were many people who saw no use in an ipad, Apple sold over 300,000 of them on their release day. The laptop business was disrupted because many people switched to iPads as their new form of work and play.
The competition of a laptop versus an iPad has been constant for years. Many think that laptops are a lot less complicated than an iPad. With a laptop, comes a keyboard, mouse pad, better storage and it is also a lot better with multitasking. They also come with different forms of connectivity like USB, HDMI and most times Ethernet. To top that, all of them have a lot less limitations than an iPad has. There are a variety of games you can download or get on a laptop that you wouldn't be able to get on an iPad. One downside of laptops is their battery life. Laptops usually do not have great battery life because of all of the different softwares used, apps and saved files and documents.
When it comes to iPads, the main reason people prefer them is because of how portable they are compared to a laptop. Some are a lot smaller so it is like carrying air in your bag and adds a barely noticeable weight difference to it. Using an iPad for work is also much easier in people's opinions. They are all touch screens, you can purchase an apple pencil to take notes on an endless amount of writing apps, buy a bluetooth keyboard and mouse to use with it as well. iPads also have a better battery life than laptops as the device makes it easy to get rid of unwanted apps, files or anything that is taking up too much storage and messing with the battery life.
In the end, the majority of people chose to stick to the basics. Laptops are generally more versatile and can easily adapt and get used to harder and more complex softwares. For students, it is a lot easier to manage this more powerful tool. For business owners, laptops allow many different softwares like accounting softwares or Microsoft Office without as many limitations as an iPad. For gamers, the graphics are always better on a computer or laptop. When trying to figure out what device you would prefer to buy for work or for gaming, always make sure to do a good amount of research on both options as one option may have more of what you are looking for.
