Welcoming spring with an uplifted school spirit, Maclay celebrated the Marauder Madness Week (MMW) from Mar. 3–7. Sponsored by the Interclub Council (ICC) every year, the MMW serves as a spirit week before spring break and prom. The week was created over 15 years ago as a winter spirit week for basketball but gradually shifted to be in spring.

This year’s dress up themes were Pajama Day, Tropical Tuesday, Dress as the First Letter of Your Name, Athletic Thursday and Blue and White Spirit Day. To foster a one-school spirit, every club under the ICC contributed to the week in unique ways, such as music, break games, bake sales, campus decorations and promotion videos.

“We pulled ICC members to see what makes a good spirit week, what makes a good pep rally and each club took on a small part, so that no one group had to do too much, and collectively we got a lot done,” ICC Sponsor Heather Bas said.

While Sports Analytics and Together Tallahassee prepared music in the courtyard, Teen Driver Board hosted a driving challenges station, and the student council organized karaoke. Celebrating Women’s History Month, Women’s Service painted a saran wrap and hosted a slime station. Junior Classical League (JCL) and Mu Alpha Theta (ΜΑΘ) held Chick-fil-a bake sales to add another fun element to courtyard celebrations and fund their upcoming trips to state competitions.

“I was most excited for the bake sales this week, especially our ΜΑΘ one, because it makes a direct impact on our clubs,” junior Sophie Lombard said. “I think MMW is important because it reminds us how we are all one community no matter our differences.”

Closing the week, the pep rally took place on Friday. This event recognized many remarkable individuals and teams in academics, sports and more. Among them were the science fair winners, orchestra winners, JCL, ΜΑΘ, Student Astronaut Challenge, DECA and the boys varsity soccer team, who recently won the state championship. Maclay also took time to honor senior John Fletcher Butler, who served as an announcer for many years.
