USA Wins Three of Four Gold Medals at the 2025 World Figure Skating Championships

Hailed as figure skating’s most prestigious annual event, the ISU World Figure Skating Championships first began in 1896 and have since brought together the most prestigious figure skaters from across the world to compete for the title of “World Champion.” This year, the 2025 Championships were hosted in Boston’s TD Garden from March 23 to March 30.
The event was attended by 200 of the world’s best figure skaters from 50 countries, who competed in their respective divisions: men’s singles, women’s singles, pairs and ice dance.
This year especially proved to be a historic milestone in U.S. figure skating history. In women’s singles, Alysa Liu won the gold medal with a total score of 222.97, becoming the first American woman to win the world title in 19 years since Kimmie Meissner’s victory in 2006. Liu had previously taken a three-year hiatus from the sport in 2022, but she returned to the rink ready to win. Meanwhile, in men’s singles, Ilia Malinin secured his second consecutive world championship title with a score of 318.56. At only 20-years-old, the “Quad God” landed six quadruple jumps, defending his title and solidifying his status as a leading competitor for the upcoming 2026 Milano-Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games. Furthermore, the ice dance duo, Madison Chock and Evan Bates, won their historic third consecutive world title with a total score of 222.06. The recently married couple performed an exciting free jazz program filled with three one-foot turns and multiple lifts. Finally, in the pairs division, Alisa Efimova and Misha Mitrofanov earned sixth place overall with a total score of 199.29.
