College admissions for the class of 2025 have been highly competitive due to record-breaking numbers of applications. Florida State University (FSU) Office of Admissions had a 49% increase in early action applicants with approximately 32,700 applications. FSU’s overall acceptance rate was 33%. The University of Florida (UF) has not officially released its admissions statistics.
According to Forbes, this year’s admission trends were impacted by many colleges’ reinstatement of standardized test scores, focus on well-rounded interdisciplinary interests and increased prioritization of first-generation students—an attempt to increase socioeconomic diversity since the Supreme Court’s ruling against race-based affirmative action. Some selective schools that reported the overall acceptance rate for the class of 2029 include Brown University with 5.65%, Columbia University with 4.29%, Dartmouth College with 6%, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) with 4.52%, University of Notre Dame with 9% and Yale University with 4.59%. In the regular decision round specifically, Vanderbilt reported 3.3%, Duke 3.67% and Georgetown 12.3%.
