The varsity boys lacrosse team came out hot and never looked back on Tuesday, April 15. In the first round of the playoffs, the Marauders had to play their best game of the season, and they did just that. Maclay won 16-2 against Fernandina Beach, securing their most dominant win of the season.

Out of the gate, Maclay took control of the game, ending the first quarter up 5-1. The team added two more goals in the second quarter, heading into halftime with a 7-2 lead.

“I was really happy to see our offense connecting in a way we have not recently,” junior Manny Arisso said. “The ability to put up puts is something we have not done so I am glad to see that happen.”

While Fernandina Beach looked to come back, the Marauders quickly ended their hopes, scoring seven goals in the third quarter and allowing zero, taking a 14-2 commanding lead. Maclay eventually won 16-2 as the final buzzer sounded, advancing to the district championship game.

“It was really good to get some of the injured kids back,” Coach Justin Vantassel said. “The team morale was higher and having kids like Austin and Jack, who are seniors, back on the field for another home game is great because they produce a lot of points for us.”

The team looks to win the district championship and keep up their stellar play on Thursday, April 17 against the Episcopal School of Jacksonville.
