Dancing Into Trouble

“Dancing with the Stars” Judge Carrie Ann Inaba Faces Backlash Over Scoring

Carrie Ann Inaba, a longtime judge of “Dancing with the Stars (DWTS)” has recently been criticized for underscoring contestants, as fans demand she should be removed from the panel.

On the show's latest episode, “Halloween Nightmares,” Inaba was seen giving out high scores to some contestants for reasons that fans believe are unfair. She was scoring male contestants higher than the female, sparking controversy, as fans believe there’s a recurring pattern of her favoring good-looking people, men over women and choosing favorites.

Fans went into an uproar when Inaba gave star Chandler Kinney, who performed the hardest dance of the night, a nine, while the other judges gave Kinney 10s. Earlier in the night, Inaba had given out 10s to male contestants whose dances were not as demanding, adding more fuel to fans' anger. The judge provided her reasoning, saying, “It was strong but not perfection because it’s such a higher criteria.” When Kinney asked her what to do to improve, Inaba did not respond with feedback, which fans saw as disrespectful.

After the incident, former contestant and Bachelorette star Charity Lawson commented on the situation when a fan compared it to her experience, saying, “The flashbacks are real.” The official “DWTS” Tiktok referenced the situation, making a joke. Inaba subtly addressed the comments, “Sometimes people come after me for my opinion, but it shows that people love what’s happening and that makes me happy they’re passionate.”
