New evidence has been released regarding the murder of four University of Idaho students in November 2022. Bryan Kohberger has been accused of stabbing and killing Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle and Ethan Chapin at a rental home in Moscow, Idaho between 4 a.m. and 4:25 a.m. The text messages between the two surviving roommates have been released and will be used as evidence in Kohberger’s trial, which is scheduled to begin in August 2025.

At 4:22 a.m., surviving roommates Dylan Mortensen and Bethany Funke exchanged text messages. Moternson texted Funke, saying: “No one is answering.” Funke replied: “Ya dude wtf.” After seeing  a man with a ski mask in their house, Mortenson said: “I’m freaking out.” Funke texted: “Come to my room” and “run.”

These messages, along with the 911 phone call transcripts reveal new chilling evidence. The data on the surviving roommates’ phones also indicate the use of social media and other communication platforms that were used that morning before they called 911. All of this evidence will be used in Kohberger’s trial.
