Maclay’s upper school Thespians troupe went to districts on Nov. 16. The competition was at Chiles High School, and the group was there from 7:30 a.m. to 6:45 p.m. There were 17 performances in total, and their best scoring performance was their large group “Welcome to the Rock” from the musical “Come from Away.” The performance received a score of 59/60 and the title “Best in Show,” meaning they were considered the best performance by the judges.

The categories at Thespian districts consist of solos, duets, groups and large groups, with acting and musical variants of each. The troupes are evaluated by three judges, who score across various different categories. When receiving scoring, the most points that can be given is five, which is called “superior,” and then scoring four points earns the title “excellent.” Scoring three points is a “good,” scoring two is called “fair,” and scoring one is called “poor.”
