On Thursday, Feb. 27, Maclay’s middle school softball team hosted their first game against Trinity Catholic. The game started at 4 p.m. and Maclay took the field with eighth-graders Elizabeth Herzog pitching, Ana Fitzpatrick at second base, Anija Tymes at third base, Bening Shehane in left field, Megan Kahn in right field, seventh-graders Julia Ferenchick catching, Rowan Carlson in center field and sixth-graders Hadley James at first base and Lovie Pustejovsky at shortstop.
“[I am most proud of] the progress that I’ve seen since [the players] started practice and their ability to be coachable,” head coach Jessica Stewart said. “They listen and execute new ideas and it showed in our game yesterday.”
Maclay took home the win with a final score of 13-2 after scoring four runs in the first inning, three runs in the second inning and six in the third inning. The win resulted from a well-balanced attack with a combination of strong hitting, baserunning and defensive play. The Lady Marauders will take on Holy Comforter Episcopal School on March 18 at 4 p.m.
