Maclay Varsity Volleyball Loses to the Leon Lions

After a promising start of the month for the Marauders, winning three games in the first five days of September, the volleyball team has hit a rough patch, losing their last six sets 6-0. They now drop to a record of 5-4 on the season after their crushing defeat to Leon on Thursday, Sept. 12.

“Our moral wasn’t matched with Leon,” senior Captain Gray Burleson said. “Last night wasn’t a skill issue but an energy issue. We were matched with them skill wise but it didn’t correlate on the court because of our energy.”

The Lions dominated from the start, winning the first set 25-15. The Marauders entered the second set with optimism, confident in turning their play around.

While the Marauders tirelessly fought to gain any momentum, they were no match for the Lions. Maclay wound up losing the second set 10-25 as well as the third, unable to win a set.

“We could have focused on communicating and doing the little things we do in practice,” senior Captain Landri Ross said. “We need to reset, leaving the game in the past and focusing on what we need to do [to improve].

The Marauders look to bounce back as they travel to Jacksonville to play in the JJVA River City Classic on Friday, Sept. 13.
