The vast amount of university options can be overwhelming for a student of a small town or rural area. However, Small Town and Rural Students College Network (STARS) makes it their goal to put college admissions staff in direct contact with high school students of small communities.
On Monday, Sept. 16, STARS hosted an event at Maclay School. This event was open to all students in or near the Tallahassee area. 13 of STARS’ 32 participating universities set up tables for students to visit. The universities in attendance were Amherst, Auburn, Caltech, Case Western Reserve, Colby, Columbia, Georgia Tech, MIT, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Vanderbilt and Yale. In addition, a presentation was given by representatives from Vanderbilt, Ohio State, Case Western Reserve and Notre Dame. The presentations covered the college search process, application process, application types and financial aid/scholarships.
The presentation and college fair gave students exposure to different university choices and ways to find their perfect college.
