After about a year and a half wait, fans of the TV series “Outer Banks” were eager to sit down and finally enjoy season three. Released on Netflix on Feb. 23, 2023, the series consists of 10 episodes, each about 50 minutes, besides the season finale which is an hour and 30 minutes long. Season three follows John B (Chase Stokes), Sarah Cameron (Madeyln Cline), JJ (Rudy Pankow), Kiara (Madison Bailey), Pope (Jonathan Davis) and Cleo (Carlacia Grant) on an adventure trying to uncover the mystery of the gold.
The plot for season three was certainly intriguing. The first episode “Poguelandia” instantly had fans drawn into the show. After ending season two on a nail-biting cliffhanger, fans were excited to pick back up where the show left off. The group of teens struggled to find a way to get off the island they were left stranded on in the previous season while at the same time running for their lives from a dangerous group of people run by Carlos Singh (Andy McQueen). On top of this, they were also trying to find the key to the mystery of El Dorado. Though this season was definitely entertaining and enjoyable for the most part, the ending was disappointing. The past two seasons have ended with thrilling cliffhangers that leave fans on the edge of their seats. However; this season the cliffhanger was boring and did not give many fans the thrill it did in years past.
Throughout the season new romances began to bloom, some of which fans were extremely excited about, others not so much. Most of the romances during this season were definitely hoped for and expected but that did not make them any less exciting. Yet there was one romance this season that left fans shocked and furious with one of the starring characters Topper (Austin North). However, the other romances had fans cheering and clapping at the TV.
During “Outer Banks” season three, there was definitely some major character development. Rafe Cameron (Drew Starkey) fell off the rails even more after his murder spiral in season two. His need for money and gold certainly did not fade away this season. As seen in some of the episodes he might be more power-hungry than ever this season. This season also showed some growth between Pop and his parents. Pope used to sneak around his family and hide the truth about his adventures. In the new season, he was more upfront and honest which was inspiring to some fans who are not always so honest with their parents. Many fans felt moved by the honesty and realized that parents should be understanding and supportive no matter how crazy you sound.
The thrilling plot, sweet romance and character growth of the show all work together to create an entertaining season. Overall this season has its moments but does not disappoint, it’s safe to say that after watching “Outer Banks” season three most fans are eager for summer so they can live out their Pogue fantasies.
