Under the Sea Inspiration
Junior Emma Zaidan created many new pieces of art in Ms. Dressel’s Design and Collab class this year. For one of her projects in the second semester, she decided to create a whale shark out of clay. Zaidan got her inspiration for this piece from one of her favorite places, St. Teresa Beach. While growing up, she spent most of her life near the beach and grew a strong love for marine life. Zaiden spent quite a few classes sculpting and perfecting her whale shark before placing it in the kiln. Once her piece has been fired, she plans to paint it and use it as decoration in her beach house.

When Steady Hands Meet Patients
Senior Blaise Wallace decided that one of his final projects in Ms. Dressel’s design and Collab class would be creating Warhammer 40,000, miniature models. Warhammer is a tabletop game that takes place in a dark and scary future. Wallace spends class after class patiently putting together incredibly small pieces that eventually make these tiny models. After they are assembled, he paints on all the tiny details and makes sure everything is perfect. After he has created all the miniature models Wallace plans on setting them up in his room and using them as decoration.

One Person’s Trash is Another’s Treasure
Senior Abi Stout decided to make some use of left-over leather scraps, that would have been wasted, for her latest art project. She did not want them to go in the trash, so she searched Pinterest and started looking up things to do with leather scraps. Upon further research, Stout decided to create random items with varying shapes and sizes. Once she created a few pieces she decided to use the rest as prototypes. After Stout creates all the prototypes with the leather samples, she plans to give them as gifts to her friends and family. Once she gives those out, Stout wants to buy real leather to continue making wallets, utensil holders and even bags to keep using as gifts.

Time to get Creative
Junior Maria Boulos created a piece of digital art using a program on her iPad called Procreate. Boulos got her inspiration for the contrast between shadows and light. She decided to demonstrate the contrast between the two by using a simple piece of cloth that showed many folds and creases. After many classes spent working on the perfection of the details and shadows, she decided to name her artwork, Cold Warmth. Boulos is currently undecided on what she will do with the final product but knows she wants to keep creating digital art like that.

Practical and Stylish
Junior Elizabeth Bodiford wanted her art project to be something that both she and many other individuals could use. While thinking about items that would be both practical and handy, she thought of jewelry dishes. When beginning to brainstorm what shape, color and size they would be, she went to Pinterest for help. There, Bodiford found many ideas for her jewelry dishes and began to plan which ones she wanted to recreate. Once she began molding the clay to the right shape, she set them aside to dry before painting. Then Bodiford referred back to her reference picture and painted on small designs. After her jewelry dishes get fired in the kiln, she plans on selling them and creating more popular designs.
