Sticks Up and Ready to Play
On Feb. 24 at 5:00 p.m., the Maclay girls’ lacrosse team took on Coastal Collegiate. With this being only their fourth game of the season, the girls were learning each other’s strengths and weaknesses along with applying what they had worked on in the few weeks of practice they had together. Throughout the game, they worked extremely well together and were able to quickly move the ball down the field and get it close to their opponent’s goal.

First Goal of the Night
Freshman Addy Papuchis was on the starting line-up for the Maclay Marauders. As a starting freshman, Papuchis begins each game with a lot of pressure to prove herself and her spot on the team. She quickly proved why she was a starter within the first nine minutes of the game, as she scored the first goal.

On The Run
Senior Maddy Meeker was a starter for the Maclay Marauders and stayed in throughout the majority of the game. Meeker also plays on the varsity soccer team which prepared her to easily make quick cuts and escape from her defender. As the game progressed, those moves allowed Meeker to be aggressive in offense and move the ball down the field.

Staying on Your Toe
Senior Grace Reichelderfer was seen many times in the face-offs as well as moving up and down the field with the ball. Reichelderfer was always keeping her eye out for her teammates as she continuously passed the ball around and forced the defense to move. Because of her nonstop movement, the Marauders were able to capitalize on the defense’s confusion and score.

Speedy Advantage
Sophomore Kassidy Moninger did a great job keeping the ball away from Coastal Collegiate while she had possession. Moniger’s speed was a huge advantage in the game because she was able to lose her defender and cut into the middle of the field right in front of the goal. This allowed her to pull other players’ defenders towards her as she then passed it to a teammate, giving them an open shot at the goal.

Team Talk
Girls varsity lacrosse coach, Sarah VanTassel, gave the team a strong game plan during the halftime break in hopes of recovering from their seven point deficit. From the girls to the coaches, everyone gave everything they had and fought back against Coastal Collegiate. Unfortunately, the Lady Marauders were not able to take back the lead and lost to Coastal Collegiate with a score of 4-8.

Catchy Phrase
Sophomore Riley Robinton was heavily guarded throughout the game which made her work twice as hard to move around her defenders and find open spots. However, with Robinton’s fast thinking she was able to cut through her opponents and face off with the goalie.

Charging to the Goal
Sophomore Tea Agramonte pushed her way through her defender to try and get one on one with the goalie. As she sees her window of opportunity, she launches the ball into the corner of the goal. Unfortunately, she overshot by two inches and was not able to secure the point for the Marauders.

First Game Back
Sophomore Bryce Storey makes her first game appearance last Friday against Coastal Collegiate part way through the second half. After hurting her ankle in the last varsity soccer game, she was in a boot for a few weeks. The day after Storey got her boot off, she went straight to practice as preparation for the game. Even after just coming back from an injury, Storey was able to intercept a pass and stop the offense from progressing down the field.

Protecting the Goal
Freshman Molly McDonald stood strong in the Marauders goal during the whole game. Even though the occasional ball would sneak past McDonald, she had countless saves and helped keep the Marauders in the game. McDonald heavily relies upon her teammates to keep the ball away from their goal for as long as they can, as well as limiting the time the ball is near the Marauders goal.
