The Met Gala is synonymous with over-the-top dresses and themed glamor. Every year, a theme is announced and celebrities have to compete to make the largest statement. This year, the theme of the Met Gala was “Gilded Glamor,” and on May 2, the red carpet was rolled out for the best dressed of the evening. Though it can be challenging to nail the theme, there were a few celebrities that truly caught the eye of this year’s viewers.

Kim Kardashian sparkled her way into the 2022 Met Gala with her platinum blonde hair and Marilyn Monroe’s actual crystal Jean Louis dress. This iconic dress was made in 1962 when Monroe sang “Happy Birthday, Mr. President” to President John F. Kennedy. Kardashian kept the look simple, wearing only diamond chandelier earrings and her hair slicked back into a bun. Even though Kardashian’s dress looked stunning on her, it did not totally fit the Met Gala theme of “Gilded Glamor.”

4. Kendall Jenner

Kendall Jenner turned heads in an all black, two-piece designed by Prada. Physically, Jenner kept it natural with smokey-eyed makeup and long, brown hair parted down the middle. Like her older sister, she kept the jewelry to a minimum, wearing only tear-dropped diamond earrings. Although the top of her dress did not fit into the theme because of the fishnet overlay, the bottom of her dress could successfully be classified as “Gilded Glamor” because of its dramatic and poofy look.

3. Blake Lively

If there was an award for the most dramatic Met Gala entrance, Blake Lively would definitely win. Waltzing into the Met Gala wearing a copper gown by Versace, she later garnered attention when the dress turned into a blueish- green train. Her dress was meant to symbolize Lady Liberty, as during the Gilded Age, Lady Liberty was copper brown like Lively’s dress, but over time she turned green. Lively topped off her look with a shiny gold tiara, color-changing gloves and copper and green earrings.

2. Billie Eilish

Billie Eilish finds herself in spot number two because she followed the theme perfectly. This music star wore a light gold, corset dress by Gucci, with the top of her dress being the appropriate corset with lace and a purple bow. She had a black choker to add to her goth look, wore her black hair styled up in a messy bun and kept her makeup simple with a nude lip and a natural eye. To finish off her look, her platform shoes peaked through the bottom of her dress.

1. Dove Cameron

Designed by Iris Van Herpen, Dove Cameron’s look was a futuristic and fantastic spin on the Gilded Age theme. The boning on the back of her dress, which continued up her neck and down her sleeves, represented a bustle that dresses commonly had during that time period. Cameron’s makeup was simple with a dramatic winged eye, and her hair had more of the boning look peeking through. Because of her unique look, attention to detail and her interpretation of the theme, Cameron easily snags the number one spot.

The Met Gala offers an annual look into what is hot and trending in the celebrity world. From the show-stopping ball gowns to the total flop fashion looks, the event brings together both crowds of celebrities and viewers. With a new theme every year, there is bound to be tons of eyes pointed at the red carpet every time May comes around, and this year was no exception.
