With a year already full of commitments and college offers for students in Maclay athletics, the Lady Marauder volleyball team adds to the list with a brand new signee. On Nov. 10, senior Breanna Tanton signed with the College of Coastal Georgia in Brunswick, Georgia to continue her career in volleyball and academics. Tanton’s family and friends were able to celebrate with her with a signing ceremony held in the Webster Gym.

Tanton joined the Maclay family this year, coming from a three year career with Lincoln High School, where her team won in the All Big Bend volleyball tournament in 2019. Despite it being her first year at Maclay, Tanton left an impact on her teammates through her leadership.

“She’s very hard working and a real leader on the court,” teammate Olivia Greenberg said. “Bre has been a great teammate and truly cares for us as a team.”

According to MaxPreps, Tanton has had 402 assists, 27 aces and 47 kills for the 2021-2022 season. She is ranked 136 in Florida based on her stats.

“Bre is a light on the court, and her intensity and expectation for excellence has served our team well and will continue to serve her as she competes at the college level,” Head Coach Daijah Washington said.

Although Washington has only coached Tanton as a Marauder for one season, the coach has made sure to offer advice to Tanton that could potentially carry on at Coastal Georgia.

“One of the most common things me and Bre talked about was the importance of consistency,” coach Washington said. “As consistent practice leads to consistent playing and ultimately being more prepared.”

Tanton’s first and only year on the Maclay volleyball team was a short one, but the season allowed her to ultimately keep playing the sport she loves at the collegiate level.

“My coach and teammates have done so much for me, as they have put in so much effort during practice,” Tanton said. “I chose Coastal because it felt like it would be my home away from home, and I felt very welcomed when I visited for the first time.”
