Thursday afternoon, the Maclay Girls Golf Team took home a win on the golf course. The match was played on September 17 at the Golden Eagle golf course. The team played against Wakulla, Community Christian School (CCS) and JPII. The Maclay team scored a total of 186 points.

The team’s match earlier that week had been cancelled due to weather conditions. Leading into this game, there had been lots of rain and storms.

“The conditions weren’t favorable because of the record amount of rainfall we experienced from Hurricane Sally,” senior Annika Dean said.

The senior golf player, Dean, had a tremendous impact on the teams overall score shooting a 40 or +4 par. The Marauders are currently undefeated and looking to keep it that way the whole season.

“What I am looking forward to this season is for our team to advance to state and win the title,” Dean said. “As this is my senior year, I am also looking forward to making a decision on where I will be attending college and playing golf at the collegiate level.”

Senior Amanda Gerrish is looking forward to her other match next Wednesday at Golden Eagle, as she sees this as a chance to improve her game and shoot lower.

“We played well against Wakulla, CCS, and JP2 even though the conditions were pretty bad and wet,” Gerrish said. “Even though we didn’t play four days prior to this match because of the rain we still managed to pull out a win.”

Coach Stockstill also felt that the weather contributed to a difficult game. Stockstill said her key players were Annika Dean (12th), Amanda Gerrish (12th), Ellie Jane Riner (9th) and Grace Reichelderfer (10th). Stockstill said that Reichelderfer makes a big impact in having a fourth person score points.

Coach Stockstill encourages the girls “to stay positive, focus, and to always have fun.” Stockstill also noted that they play Chiles the following week which is very exciting.

“Finally we are looking forward to making it to Regionals and are very hopeful that if we continue to put forth our best scores, we will have the potential to go to the State championship,” Coach Stockstill said.
